Sterling Silver Edwardian Comport Bowl, Cooper Brothers & Sons, Sheffield, 1906

About the Item

Made from solid Sterling Silver by Cooper Brothers & Sons of Sheffield in 1906, this Edwardian comport bowl is wonderfully decorated with organic Art Nouveau forms. With a wide pedestal base giving the piece a ‘Tazza’ style, the bowl is embossed with a spiralling decorative design of reed shapes, teardrops and a circling arabesque line in low-relief, visible in reverse on the lightly gilted interior. At the front is a space enclosed with scrollwork and intricately chased feathering, left blank for the addition of personalised engravings by the owner. A superb and ornate piece of Edwardian Art Nouveau silverware.
