Victorian English Sterling Epergne Centerpiece by Manoah Rhodes & Sons c 1890

About the Item

Our sterling silver epergne from the Bradford, England firm of Manoah Rhodes and Sons, circa 1888-1890, features wonderful neoclassical motifs including horned animals and exotic birds, a main dish of cut glass and three smaller matching cut glass dishes. Main dish measures 11 3/8 inches across, and the three smaller dishes measure 4 inches across. With the maker's signature on underside, plus Queen Victoria duty mark and letter Z year code. The Queen Victoria duty mark was abolished in 1890, allowing us to date the piece to 1888-1890, as we know the firm reorganized as Manoah Rhodes & Sons Ltd. in 1888. Based in Bradford, a town west of Leeds and north of Sheffield in the north of England, the firm was founded in 1836 by Manoah Rhodes.
