20th Century Italian Solid Silver Empire Style Souce Boat with Little Ladle
About the Item
Important Empire style souce boat in 800 silver made in Italy at the end of the 20th century entirely by hand.
The Empire style is a current of Neoclassicism that affected 19th century architecture, furniture, decorative arts and visual arts. It developed during the Napoleonic age, in order to celebrate the rise to power of Napoleon Bonaparte (1804-1814; 1815) and spread throughout most of Europe.
The two-faced body was made by hammering the silver sheet until it is shaped and undulated to make it balanced, harmonious in its forms and elegant to display on the table.
The base is oval which fits in proportion to the body of the gravy boat.
Its comple sauce ladle completes the object.
The border with the palmettes was then shaped and welded both on the body and on the oval base so that the empire style took shape.
