Art Deco AEG Kettle "P-139" Peter Behrens Darmstadt Industrial Design
About the Item
Former AEG kettle "P-139" by industrial designer Peter Behrens in the style of Arts Deco with Art Nouveau influences.
The kettle is made of hammered copper. The boiler contains 1.75 liters. The original cable has bakelite plugs.
The first electric kettles were developed around 1900. In 1909, the designer and architect Peter Behrens (1868-1940) developed numerous electric water boilers for the company AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft) in Berlin. These kettles were serially produced, but differed in shape, material and size. Certain basic forms were developed, which had a volume of 0.75 l to 1.75 l. Incidentally, Peter Behrens is regarded as the inventor of corporate design and developed numerous different products with a uniform design for AEG.
Peter Behrens was the pioneer of modern industrial design. His water kettle models for the company AEG are a prime example of streamlined production. With three basic types and three different materials and surface treatments and a selection of different handles and spouts, numerous variants could be produced.
