Georg Jensen Cosmos Sterling Silver 8 P Tea & Coffee Set 1920, 45 Tray Denmark

About the Item

A magnificent Danish Georg Jensen 8 piece Tea and Coffee set in the Cosmos Pattern. The set comprises of a Kettle on Stand, Coffee Pot, Tea Pot, two Milk / Cream Jugs and two lidded Sugar Bowls on large Tea Tray. The handles of the set are a shaped dark wood. On the Tea Set the handles are carved with a liner pattern the handles on the Tea Tray are polished wood. Each piece has a subtle hammered finish. The Tea and Coffee Set and the Kettle on Stand are all matching and of an age in the Cosmos Pattern, while the Tea Tray is a later Jensen produced item, Designed by Johan Rohde which matches and complements the Set. The Tea and Coffee Set were made by Georg Jensen in Denmark in circa 1920-1940, while the Tray is later marked for the period circa 1945-1970. The Tea Set is of notable quality and size, and is of very heavy weight. It is in excellent condition with no damage. Approx. Total weight - 8346g / 268.36oz Tray approx.     Rare Georg Jensen, sterling silver 4-piece tea and coffee set, all beautifully hand hammered, with exquisite natural motifs and elegant proportions, designed by Georg Jensen circa 1910/1920, consisting of: - a coffee pot, measuring 10 3/4'' in height with the lid by 10 3/8'' from handle to spout, with a dark wood handle - a tea pot, measuring 9 3/4'' in height with the lid by 8 3/4'' from handle to spout, with a dark wood handle - a creamer, measuring 4 7/8'' in height by 8 1/8'' from handle to spout - a two-handled sugar bowl, measuring 3 3/8'' in height by 7'' from handle to handle Total weight is 79.2 troy ounces, and each bear hallmarks and pattern numbers (three of the pieces are in pattern 71B, the creamer is in pattern 177) as shown. The creamer is from 1925 to 1932 while other pieces are from circa 1945 to 1952, which places the set towards the beginning of the Georg Jensen silversmithing enterprise. This set is illustrated in authoritative books on Jensen, for instance on page 219 of "Georg Jensen A Tradition of Splendid Silver" by Janet Drucker, and as number 2 on page 74 in "Georg Jensen Holloware The Silver Fund...
