Porcelain Tea Bowls Vintage Blue and White with Japanese Silvered Hexagon Teapot

About the Item

This assembled set of vintage tea bowls and a silvered or zinc 19th Century teapot from Japan is unusual. The set that came from an estate auction lot of ceramics that included 10 "Batavia" blue and white porcelain tea bowls from the early 20th Century. Each bowl is blue with white interior and the most intricate handpainting, while the outside features black glazing and is unmarked. However, the traditional design painted inside the cups provides a hint about the time the bowls were produced. They measure 2.25 inches high and 3 inches diameter They are in very good condition without chips or other issues and th color is clear and bright. Our appraiser says theJapanese hexagonal teapot is silvered metal, like pewter or zinc. It is a 19th Century hot water kettle that is two pieces. The bent wire handles are attached to a removeable insert with spout and the outside of the kettle has etched panels in relief, with Japanese characters. The kettle is 4.5 inches high and 4.5 wide. A lovely set.
