English Wine Compendium or Cellarette 'Wine Cooler' of Mahogany, c.1840

About the Item

A fine English compendium for wine or cellarette wine cooler (sarcophagus) of mahogany, c.1840, featuring a center-paneled canopy (or mitered top) with cavetto moulded edge, opening to a felt-lined interior. The tapering body showing flame mahogany panels with canted corners, inset reeded mouldings, decorative cartouches to the corners, resting on carved lion's paw feet with scroll corner brackets.
