Rare African Revolutionary Splint Woven Briefcase circa 1970
About the Item
This briefcase was a Zairian family’s prized possession and was presented to a highly respected American relative who visited and stayed with them at their home in Popokabaka in 1979, and who has owned it since then.
Woven of splint and fiber, the briefcase has geometric patterns along with the large initials. The handle is a braided fiber rope and twisted wire forms the hinges and closures, all original. While it was initially used to hold papers concerning the revolutionary movement, it has been carefully preserved for over thirty years and is in excellent condition.
