Important Antique Folk Art Carnival Figure of a Macaque

About the Item

A hollow finely carved wood macaque figure dressed as a human with short green hair, a blue jacket and yellow slacks. He stands and holds a walking stick in his left hand and crosses his right hand over his chest. His red lips smile as he looks left, probably one half of a figural mechanical item. The green painted base has an iron attachment on the back. Number 51 is painted in black on the bottom of the base. Other numbers in red and black on the back and base. Measures: H 22 1/4", W 5 1/4", D 3.5”. Condition: well worn with many losses to the paints, rust on the base screws however the wear is in keeping with the age and the carving presents exceptionally well.
