Original Fairground 'Speedway' Rounding Boards, 1950s Red Gold

About the Item

We have several boards available for sale, priced individually, each board has differing words on reverse, see photos and options (1 Of Each Board Available Only) The photographs shows the front and back of each board English Fairground 'Ark' 'Speedway' rounding boards We have researched this ride with the help from the UK's best historians & previous fairground family owners to find out the origins and some dates for provenance of the ride and rounding boards  The ride was made and brought to the UK from Germany in 1931 as an 'Ark'. These rounding boards were added later as replacements circa 1950s-1960s when it changed to a speedway and the paintwork restored and updated by then owner bill swift of 'WM Swift Fairground' we have attached some images of the ride showing the boards in use through 1950s-1980s Outer side of the boards have the classic original brightly colored fairground artwork with gold and silver highlights, depicting wings and speed stripes, with elaborate scroll work and stars The insides have been re worked probably during the 1970s with go faster slogans and stickers on a purple background The boards are in good condition, stable and strong 4 of the boards measure 253cm length, 85cm height, 20cm depth One board (e) is shorter at 243cm length  The panels are curved (convex) not flat There are the original metal hooks and stamped numbers on the backs of the boards to locate which connected to which when in use The “Ark” Noah's ark was originally a German ride that arrived in Britain in the 1930s. These new continental roundabouts were faster than anything seen before and the speed was the magic ingredient that allowed arks to dominate. Rides of this type were called arks because the early imported machines were fitted with wooden animal figures upon which the riders sat. Arks also became speedways when motorcycles were introduced for the riders. The idea was to exploit the contemporary craze for motorcycle racing in Britain, more commonly known as speedway. These then evolved into The Waltzer, with the fast rotating tub cars as we see them today.
