Ancient Northwest Coast Stone Club Estimated A.D. to Pre-European Contact
About the Item
Ancient Northwest Coast Stone Club estimated A.D. to Pre-European Contact.
This is an exceptional ethnological treasure of great aesthetic quality and rarity. The stone club is carved from slate rock in an abstract shape and was used by Indigenous peoples, the earliest known inhabitants of the area Oregon, Washington
and British Columbia. Estimated dates for Northwest Coast stone clubs range from 500 B.C. to European Contact. They were made in a wide variety of sizes and designs and were used for hunting, combat fighting or for ritual activities. It is
suggested that this club may be a ceremonial implement. This skilfully crafted club has re-curved edges and it is beautifully polished with a great patina through handling over the course of about 2000 years. It comes with a professional iron
museum display stand.

This beautifully decorated and well cared for lustre bowl is one of the few examples still in existence. It was made in Kashan in the 12th-early 13th century, Seljuk- Atabeg period. Kashan was an important center for the production of high quality pottery and tiles. It was an expensive and unpredictable lustre technique. Kashan lustreware pottery can be found in the collections of the British Museum and the Hermitage Museum. Literature: O. Pancaroglu.
