Thomas B. Maracle Indigenous Canadian Mohawk Stone Carving or Sculpture

About the Item

This large Indigenous North American stone carving was done by Thomas B. Maracle of the Mohawk Nation in circa 1985 in his signature Indigenous Folk Art style. The sculpture depicts an Eagle with its wings spread, looking down upon four Elders who are together in a boat or canoe shaped base with a Turtle shell on the back, which presumably represents the Turtle Clan. Thomas Maracle is a professional artist who is best known for his carvings in various types of stone, but is also an accomplished painter and musician.
