Pair of Vera Alabaster 'Russian' Original Folk Art Oil Paintings on Canvas
About the Item
This pair of oil paintings on canvas are done by the well known portrait and landscape Russian artist, Vera Alabaster in circa 1940 in a Folk Art style. The paintings depict a Jamaican man and is titled "His Sunday Best" and is in its original frame. Incidentally, this painting was presented to the Bank of Commerce in Kingston Jamaica by the staff on July 23, 1943 and has an engraved brass tag on the lower portion of the front of the frame. The other painting of this pair depicts a Jamaican woman and is untitled and is also in its original painted wooden frame. Both paintings are clearly signed "Vera Alabaster" on the lower portion of the painting. There is wear to both the original frames, and the painting of the woman shows a small tear that has been taped. The larger painting of the man measures approximately twenty six and a half inches by thirty two inches with the frame and the painting of the woman measures approximately ten and a quarter inches by twenty seven and a half inches.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Most notably, the painting of the woman has a small tear that was taped from the back. Both frames show wear as presented in the photos and consistent with age and use. The dimensions posted above refer to the painting of the man without the frame.
