Large Antique Temple Carving, Polychrome Buddhist Statue
About the Item
Large antique temple carving, polychrome Buddhist statue.
This wonderful carving, is the top part of larger piece, the paint is a dusty slightly chalky finish, in beautiful muted colours.
The carving shows 2 figures in a sitting position guarding the eternal wheel, this would have been a wall hung piece, it still has ancient iron fixings on the back but now it has been set on stand so that it is now free standing
There is deep shrinkage crack to one side, the bottom of the panel is missing, but it is all very sound.
The statue dates from the 18th century or earlier.
It is 48” tall and the base is 20” x 10.
