Antique Pair of Folk Art Figures Fisherman and Fish Seller under Glas Domes
About the Item
This marvellous pair of Folk Art figures are made out of painted paper mash and carved and painted wood. The couple represents a fisherman and a fish seller, probably his wife.
Their clothes are covered with small clams and other shells. The woman wears a coral necklace and a beautiful black hat with cream coloured lace tied with a ribbon. She carries a wicker basket with a fish on her head. The fisherman wears a tall black head covered with red fur and a red cotton scarf. He is smoking his pipe and holds a wicker basket with his catch.
Both figures are wearing wooden clogs.
The figures come with their original glas domes on wooden bases, decorated with fine, polychrome wood marquetery. The domes are protected by twisted rope that may be a later addition.
