1960s Chrome Stem, Black Housing and Textured Glass, Attibuted to RAAK or Lyfa

About the Item

An elegant, long-stemmed pendant light in restrained modernist midcentury style. Several producers made lights like this: Stilnovo in Italy; Orrefors in Sweden; Lyfa in Denmark; RAAK in the Netherlands. We are plumbing for RAAK or Lyfa on this one, as the glass production is not of the crystaline quality of Orrefors, though it is still very good, and the hardware is not of the extreme quality of Stilnovo, though it is still excellent. Thick, heavy glass is housed in satiny black enameled metal with white reflective interior. Chrome fixtures finish the light and enhance its strictly modernist appeal. Definitely of European origin and high quality. This light is wired to Australian standards and has been recently tested and tagged, safe for use in Australia. Customers from the UK, Europe and the US, be aware that it takes a standard B22 Bayonet bulb, not an Edison Screw bulb. A NOTE ON WIRING: This item is rewired to Australian/NZ Standard and has been tested and tagged safe for a nominal 230v system (supply of anywhere from 210-240v). Australian and New Zealand buyers must consult a registered electrician for hard wired installation or safety tag will be void. Plug and play if this item is a lamp. This light is compatible with European 220v electrical systems but wire colours may differ and correct bulbs may or may not be readily available. Please check with your bulb supplier before purchase - many are available online. Consult your electrician for hard wired installation or to change bulb sockets (or for plug change if this item is a lamp). In the US and anywhere a 110v system is in place - this light may or may not require rewiring to meet your local safety standards and correct bulbs may or may not be readily available. Please use the information provided to seek advice on compatibility from your locally registered electrician before purchase. They will be able to advise on the potential need for rewiring, bulb socket changes, or if this item is a lamp, for plug change. Before purchase, please check with your bulb supplier - many are available online. Use of LED bulbs is recommended (to prevent overheating and reduce power usage).

  • Batwing Brass Chiavari Chair Gothic Green Velvet 1960s
    By Chiavari
    Located in Melbourne, AU
A splendid brass example of the Chiavari style first developed in the coastal town of Chiavari, south of Milan, Italy. This particular specimen is in excellent condition, with a lovely recent restoration of the upholstery, well cushioned, in a tasteful dark green velvet. The chair is in very sound condition and is of a higher quality than others we have handled - notably the shaping of the feet and the back are particularly fine. The original Chiavari chair is a delicate-boned creature in light-weight timber, designed to be both light and strong. It’s turned timber frame gave the opportunity for elaborate decoration which was popular in the mid to late 1800s. The brass version was created in the 1950s as a playful reference to the original, the brass emphasising the elaborate framework. It’s intended as a decorative chair for hallways, as a bedside chair, or can be used as a feature chair...
