American Gilt Bronze and Slag Glass Hanging Fixture.
About the Item
This imposing fixture combines a very good quality pierced gilt bronze canopy and central mount, cast with putti, masks and scrolling acanthus. Look carefully at the detailed photos to get some idea of the quality of the outstanding metalwork. The panelled shade is wide and throws a soft glow from the side but could throw a very strong light below with a suitable dimmer switch. The shade itself continues the quality of the central mount. There is no evident label to indicate the maker but we feel it is American and probably made by a major lighting company at the turn of the century. It would work especially well over a table, illuminating strongly below and subtly from a distance.
