Carved Alabaster and Silvered Bronze Bowl Fixture

About the Item

This carved alabaster bowl fixture from the early Art Deco period is in two colors natural and almond. All the external mounting parts such as tassels and lower drop finial are crafted in silvered bronze and have been left in the natural patina with age instead of polished and lacquered. The stained and carved upper larger band is done in the form of leaves and stylized fruit in low relief next to the clear uncarved section allowing the play of light through the unstained area, then finishing with the lower area stained and carved in classically ribbed sections. This fixture shows the early influences of the french modern style but still has certain classical features making its manufacture date most likely before the 1925 exposition which completely revolutionized the decorative arts The bowl fixture gives vertical up light but will also allow a play of light around the room with its internal light source while being sculptural and decorative.
