Louis XV Style (in French, Louis Quinze) is an artistic style, mainly in the field of decorative arts, corresponding to the reign of Louis ). ), period for which the name "Regency Style" is used.1 Initially the name "Louis XV Style" referred to a characteristic type of chairs, but it soon expanded to all the arts of its time.
The style was, therefore, the creation of cabinetmakers, as a result of a greater technical advance in the manufacture of chairs.2 The perfect fit of the assemblies and the resistance of the wood made it possible to eliminate the thick entretoises,3 to lighten the shells and improve the legs.4
Extended to different aspects of interior decoration, especially when it comes to complete projects carried out by ornemanistas (decorators), it is identified with the architectural style called Rococo.
The so-called Pompadour Style or Transition Style5 (between 1750 and 1774) is inspired by that of Louis XV, but discards the decorative excesses of rocaille and announces the classical renewal of the Louis XVI Style.
