Frederic Weinberg Bird Cage Shaped Planter Hanging Fixture with Onion Dome Top

About the Item

This bird cage shaped hanging fixture was originally designed by Frederic Weinberg as a planter. A slight variation of this design was also available as an actual bird cage, but I can find no reference to it having been offered by Frederic Weinberg as a ceiling fixture. So I assume it was converted to a hanging fixture for its original owner, where it hung in the center of a circular staircase. The form is of a stylized tower with an onion dome top. The hanging chain attaches to the ring finial. A scrolling pattern of wire decorates the front, and a wooden ball forms the handle for the door. The four light bulbs are abstract representations of birds in the cage. Approximate measurements: 14" diameter (not including door handle) x 50" high (to top of ring).
