French Mid-19th Century, Louis XIV Style Eight-Arm Ormolu Chandelier
About the Item
A most handsome French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu chandelier. The eight arm chandelier is centered by a lovely bottom acorn finial below fine foliate mounts with a mottled and reeded design centered by a charming acorn finial. Each of the elegantly scrolled arms branch out from block reserves with richly chased cherub faces, likely Zephyr, the God of wind). Each arm is adorned with large finely detailed acanthus leaves, delicate flowers and display reeded candle cups and bobeches. The tapered central fut displays a striking urn shape with superb reeded and fluted designs, richly chased palmettes and beautiful maidens all in a rich satin and burnished finish. All original gilt throughout.
