French Modernist Rectangular Glass and Nickel Chandelier

About the Item

A French modern rectilinear chandelier of simple, clean and architectural form. This chandelier with flat frosted glass insets is set behind a surround in polished nickeled bronze and hand forged iron with martele circular and scroll patterns on the iron armature. The elongated square/ rectangular shape is suspended by double tubular rods and capped by an elongated canopy. Great over a dining room table, a kitchen island, a billiard table, a hallway, entry foyer, bedroom.... Wired for U.S specs; holds 10 candelabra based sockets which can accommodate either incandescent or led bulbs. This pendant/ chandelier can be custom shortened and hovered right under the ceiling like a flushmount or lengthened for an additional fee.     This unique rectangular shaped modernist chandelier, circa 1940, is attributed to P. Fargette. A French chandelier of billiard style and Industrial Design with an elongated demilune edge profile, stepped flat frosted bottom glass and sides formed of stacked glass rods which give a ridged appearance. Twin rods lower the chandelier from a protracted demilune shaped nickel-plated bronze canopy which invokes the shape of the chandelier. The chandelier is accented on either end by an eight pointed star, a favorite design motif prominent in the 1940s. Pyrex glass rods as seen on the sides of the chandelier were first used in this way in 1944 by Frank Lloyd Wright in his controversial Johnson Wax Building...
