Miracle chandelier designed by Prof. Friedl Bakalowits for Bakalowits & Söhne
This Sputnik crystal glass and brass chandelier was made in Austria, manufactured in the 1960s.
The layered multi-tier structure is made of solid brass rings and glass rods with faceted ends in different length.
The airy design is due to its thoughtful construction; each polished glass rod is held in place with firm tension by individual brass wire loops, a method of assembly allowing for its frame to remain lightweight in support of the dense collection of glass rods. The rods are then stacked in radials with polished brass rings between each set. The result is an orderly spherical brass frame which bursts outwardly with the glass that illuminates beautifully when the light is on.
