Monumental Iron, Pine & Glass Chandelier Czechoslovakia, Circa 1910

About the Item

A monumental iron, pine and glass chandelier designed and made in Czechoslovakia circa 1910. The overall look and feel of the light is impressively unusual being connected all at once to Modernity, industrial design and Baroque- & Victorian-Gothic- inspired design. This said the form of the light is essentially purely geometric as it is made up entirely of circles, ovals, squares, triangles and their 3D counterparts. The central column of the chandelier is a triangular prism. Off of each face of the triangular prism an arm extends at an angle of 90 degrees. Dropping down from the end of each arm is a square section of wood fitted with an iron cylinder at the end. From the cylinders dangle white glass globes. A globe, larger in size and irregularly squashed, also hangs from the bottom of the central shaft of the light. The metal section that holds the glass in place here goes from a cylinder to a cone in shape before returning to a cylinder again. The way the different shapes are arranged within the light emphasizes the contrasting nature of the forms in the design. Similarly, the materials within the light are highlighted by the act of them contrasting.Although an undeniable statement piece, the light could be used in a multitude of interiors with different styles -all you need is the space!
