Rare Belgium Art Deco Ceramic and Wrought Iron Chandelier by A Dubois, Belgium

About the Item

Rare ceramic and wrought iron chandelier by Antoine Dubois,Belgium. Diameter 90 cm - height fixture 76 cm - total height 96 cm - weight 10 kg. 13 generations of this family have been around since the 1960s actively engaged in: turning, pouring, drying, baking, glazing and painting all kinds of earthenware. At the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century the names of François and his son Antoine Dubois. Father François went to work in 1882 as a young porcelain painter in the well-known plateel factory from # Wasmuël. Ten years later he founded this region with his son and teacher-artist Emile Lombart, the faience series of # Saint-Ghislain. In 1909 father and son move to #Anderlecht (#Brussels) where they stay until 1917 remained active and especially beautiful hand painted earthenware tile pictures produced. The death of Mrs. Dubois in 1917 and a devastating event fire in 1919 ... the family decided to return to Mons. In 1920, after the death of father François, Antoine founded a simple limited partnership with three other partners. With the production brand: 'Mons Poterie Belgique or in Mons Pottery Belgium'. In 1925 it changed its name and became: 's.a. La Céramique Montoise '. The company then employed around a hundred people. The production consisted of tile panels, fireplace fittings, wall plates, vases, bowls, coffee and tea sets, smoking tools etc. The most common painting style was that of the Gouda style. It is also good to know that other companies such as 'les Editions Nerva', mainly known for its crackle sculptures, made use of the know-how of this company. The pieces are usually signed below with C.M. MOUNTAINS and a mini terril, sporadically one also finds the mark: "C.B.-Ären Plateel". The name A.Dubois is often found in the decor. In my opinion, they testify to a high artistic and traditional quality ... unfortunately they are difficult to find for collectors.
