Floor Lamp with Ivory Linen Shade atop Black-painted Maple and Boxwood Trim Base
About the Item
Floor standing lamp with tall, tapered square-edge shade in crisp ivory linen atop a black maple base with natural boxwood pinstripe trim, and fitted with a cast aluminum light switch in sleek serpentine form. Titled “Napoleon Complex", this piece was executed in 2023 by London-based designer EJR Barnes.
The superior proportioned lamp shade cuts a dignified and imperial silhouette with its clean lines that taper inward at the top, and outward at the bottom opening, which cast a square of light on the floor more than double the footprint of the piece itself. A smaller square casts a flattering glow of secondary light from the top of the shade onto the ceiling.
A sense of drama is conveyed through the contrasting scale of the lamp’s base, and its rectilinear, box-like construction of black-stained solid maple with meticulously inlay of natural boxwood pinstripe trim. This is a distinctive lighting piece that serves high design and function, and would make a striking statement in any interior space.
The Napoleon Complex floor lamp fits a standard 2.5W LED / 25W equivalent bulb (included) and is wired with a black round flexible US cord that plugs into an outlet.
About the Artist:
Elliot ‘EJR’ Barnes (b. 1991) is an artist and designer based in East London. Known for romantic yet pragmatic works, his auto-didactic practice is elegantly non-conformist, unbound by the emotional barriers of a formal training and somewhat undefined, existing in the gray area between decorative art and industrial design.
