Venetian, Murano Style Antique Floor Lamp with Alabaster Brass Base
About the Item
This is a a vintage Venetian hand-blown glass, chandelier with a four-light floor lamp circa 1920-1950. The appraiser says it is unique and could be from Murano.
This piece has a story. It has been a project of 2022 for me. When I discovered it, it was in need of conservancy and attention.
I have brought it back with new wiring, and a replacement finial. The work was done at Lamp Specialties in West Los Angeles. I was careful not to overdo it by changing out every fitting in favor of newer shiny washers and accessories.
The detailed etching and reeding on the column of the lamp between the large balls imparts a sense of elegance and artisanship. The lamp is made of crystallo glass, which is in good condition. The lamp is topped with four twist-blown arms that are serpentine form. The appraiser believes that the lamp actually had five arms at one time.
The arms support scalloped candle-cups, over a segmented straight pedestal, which rests on a white marble/alabaster and bronze circular base.
The only element that I did not restore would be the area at the base where there is a break in the decorative bronze lattice work. I hope someone will take this floor lamp to the next level of restoration.
It is 63 inches tall; the width/depth of arms is 17 inches; and the base is 11 inches in diameter.

- Condition:Rewired: The lamp is rewired and works perfectly, now. It is quite beautiful. It does need attention to the loss at the base. Please see images. Additions or alterations made to the original: This piece has been a project for the last year. I made conservative but necessary repairs from rewiring to finding replacement finials. All repairs were made by Lamp Specialties of West Los Angeles near Cheviot Hills. Experts. Replacements made: The crystal prisms have been replaced, as well as the finial at the top. The lamp has been rewired by Lamp Specialties in West Los Angeles. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages.
