Italian, Milanese, Etruscan Revival Carved Wood Vessels/Lanterns (2 Available)
About the Item
Inspired by the extraordinary Italian archaeological excavations of the early 1800s, these were entirely constructed of carved fruitwood, some parts ebonized and some parts lightly painted in a now faded red, these wonderful vessels were raised and lowered by rope on a pulley, the collector with three hooks supporting the urns by wooden chains, each link intricately carved with geometric pieces and spikes, decorated with a greek key pattern and having overturned lips and tapering to points at the bottoms, each urn issuing three exaggerated greek key arms, truly objects of fine craftsmanship and great rarity.
