Montilla Wrought Iron Lantern with Chained Wall Mount

About the Item

Spanish blacksmiths of the Renaissance period were known for their elaborate pieces that typically featured scrolled elements and imaginative crests. This wrought iron lantern with chained wall mount is reminiscent of such antique Spanish work. The top backplate is shaped with raised molding and a highly scrolled mount with a C-scroll and roundel finial. A chain runs from an eyelet beneath the finial to a second eyelet on top of a pyramid-shaped canopy of the lantern. Angular hoods on each canopy face protect an aperture covered with a small mesh grating (see photos). The hoods are aligned with a pane of glass below (although the front pane is missing) that protect the three white faux candle sleeves on small bobeches and arms. Each edge of the lantern is adorned with two merging C-scrolls, tying in nicely with the large S-scroll noix that drops from the lantern base and runs to a second highly shaped backplate with molding. The perfect addition to an entryway, wine cellar, or library, our wrought iron lantern is a beautiful source of home lighting.
