19th Century Louis XV Ormolu French Sconces
About the Item
Fine pair of gilded and sculpted ormolu bronze sconces in Louis XV style. They each feature two arms that wind out from the stem and upward like branches. Each stem is richly decorated with scrolling foliage, shells, flowers, and cherubs' heads.
Those heads represent a mythological baby or Putti who is puffing his cheeks and mouth as if to blow modelling the foliage with his own wind.
Meticulous attention was given to every detail of this pair of sconces. They are in mint condition and all the gilding is original 19th century ormolu gilding.
