Pair of Model 259/2 wall lamps by Massimo Vignelli for Arteluce, 1964

About the Item

The Model 259/2 wall lights, a highly uncommon design by Massimo Vignelli dating back to 1964, stand out for their construction using anodized aluminum frames and fabric fringes surrounding the light source. This model boasts multiple variations, including a single-light source wall lamp (Mod. 259/1) and a ceiling lamp with four light sources (Mod. 2049/4). Notably reminiscent of earlier designs by Gino Sarfatti and Gianfranco Frattini, these lamps also feature distinctive fringes. Next to our lamps and the No. 526 table lamp, these were the only designs that emerged from the brief collaboration between Vignelli and Gino Sarfatti, the esteemed founder of Arteluce. Vignelli’s reputation primarily revolves around his delicate glass lighting design for Venini during the 1950s. These wall fixtures, notably different from his usual creations, illuminate the principles of early modernism. Each lamp has the Arteluce sticker and remains in very good condition. *Each single wall lamp has two light sources. We have two pairs available. The requested price is for one pair (two lamps). Literature: Arteluce catalogue No. 01 *A copy of the lamps featured in the Arteluce catalogue will be included in the sale. The lamps are fitted for use in the USA. They are equipped with E27 sockets.
