Pair of Sconces by Seguso for Veronese, Signed and Numbered, Italy, circa 1940

About the Item

Pair of sconces in clear and gold (inclusions) Murano glass, with brass mounts, Italy, circa 1940 Signed on both "Veronese, Seguso, Murano" and stamped and numbered 18 and 21 on the hardware, on the wall mount and on the glas leaf. One (number 18) has a hairline that runs about 2 inches from the botom of the stem where the signature lies, but seems structurally stable and no piece is missing, (very hard to notice and photograph, please see last two photos).

    Véronese was established in 1931 by Marcel Barbier. The firm was unique in having a design office in Paris and a glasswork on Murano. They developed a product line of clear translucent glass that was promoted through extensive advertising, and sold from striking modern showrooms in Paris and Nice. Their master glassblower was Giovanni Veronese, but the name was probably meant to evoke the 17th century Venetian painter Paolo Veronese, who depicted glassware and other luxury goods.
