Chrome-Plated Steel and Opaline Glass Lamp Model 10524 by Michel Boyer, 1972

About the Item

Chrome-plated Steel and Opaline Glass Lamp model 10524 by Michel Boyer, 1970 The 10524 lamp is a large and elegant table lamp designed by Michel Boyer and published by Verre Lumière around 1970. The lamp consists of a perforated metal base on which rests an opaline globe. An interior architect and designer, Michel Boyer received major private commissions from the end of the 1960s onwards and was entrusted with the creation of many prestigious groups. Seduced by his design for the Rothschild bank, one of his most striking creations, many people gave him carte blanche. Michel Boyer thus worked in complete freedom, creating particularly harmonious ensembles where the decoration was enriched by furniture, lighting, and other decorative objects. Concerned about the quality of this production, he will himself distribute and present his furniture at the Galerie Rouve. The diversity and richness of his work is illustrated by projects carried out in France for L'Oréal, Dior, Balmain and Lanvin, and more recently for Alstom and Vivendi Environment. Abroad, he has acted as an ambassador for our country, setting up our diplomatic representations in Washington and Brasilia. Michel Boyer used materials that were new at the time, such as post-formed, laminated or fiberglass, whose formal resources he exploited to create chairs and coffee tables. 1970 was the era of metal, and the designer successfully 'tamed' it; steel was bent and curved for the famous 'x' stool; it was bent into a tube to 'embrace' the leather-cushioned armchair; it still frames the impressive desk of Barons Elie and Alain de Rothschild. Michel Boyer also uses woods such as pear or ramin, whose species and finishes he combines in a powerful and always infinitely elegant play of contrasts.

Alain Richard (1926 - 2017) is a famous French designer who quickly established himself as one of the most brilliant representatives of his generation. After graduating top of his class from the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1949, he joined his former teacher René Gabriel's studio, before moving to the Netherlands on Gabriel's death. The young designer then collaborated with Hein Salomonson's firm, before setting up his own design office in Paris in 1952 with his wife Jacqueline Iribe, a designer of furnishing textiles. Rigorously functional, his first pieces of furniture were first published by Lavrilleux and Charron, then by Meubles TV, where Alain Richard worked and designed several pieces with André Monpoix. Together, they designed the Banquette 195 (1954). A success among others, it was awarded the Prix de la Triennale de Milan in 1954 and, ten years later, the Prix René Gabriel. Alain Richard's talented career continued in the 70s, with frequent commissions from the Mobilier national, the design of numerous museums, and projects for major hotel groups, winter sports resorts and BNP, which entrusted him with the furnishings of numerous prestigious branches around the world. At the end of his career, he devoted himself to teaching. the table 200 was published by meuble TV, one of the major publishers of the time. It measures 180 cm when the extension is in use, and 130 cm when the extension is folded away to the side. It can be used as a dining table for 8 people...
