Fratelli Toso italian murano glass table lamp 1960

About the Item

The Toso family is one of the oldest glass making family of Murano (Barovier Toso 1295). They created their own company as "Fratelli Toso" (1854-1984) while designing also for other companies as for Leucos and Itre. This piece is one of the rarest from their late 1960's production. It uses the techniques of "cane" which is composed in several steps. They start with a glass ball in fusion to which they add the colours they want. It is then stick between two pols and pulled through the hot shop to make a long stick out of it. They can twist the pols at the same time as pulling, it will make an even nicer pattern and finish called "Filigrane". Once it has cool down on the hot shop floor, they break it in several pieces with same length. The small sticks are delicately laid on a flat surface in order to make the definite design and put back in the furnace. By laying a glass bulb on it, they will stick to its circumference.
