French Art Nouveau Brass Table Lamp with Frog, 1930s

About the Item

Beautiful Art Nouveau brass table lamp in the shape of a water lily with a frog figurine on the base. White flower-shaped frosted glass lampshade. One socket for a B22-size light bulb. To the U.S. the lamp will be shipped with an adapter for the US wiring system. Dimensions: height: 27.5 cm / 10.82 in; diameter: 17 cm / 6.7 in. The light fixture is in complete working order, but as with all vintage or antique lighting, we would always suggest it is tested by a qualified electrician.

    Ceramics table lamp made at "L. Hjort", Denmark in the 1930s. The base is made from stoneware and hand decorated with fruit branches and parrots motif in Art Nouveau style. Original socket mount in patinated brass. Mounted with white flax linen shade. Marked by maker underneath. In the 1850s at the island of Bornholm in Denmark the small terracotta factory "L. Hjort" specialized in producing terracotta earthenware items. The factory had great success internationally, and already by 1880 Hjorth's articles were sold in the big department stores of Paris, London and Berlin, and as far away as in Australia, New York and Sct. Thomas. The factory also participated in the big World Exhibitions in Altona 1869, London 1870 and 1874 as well as New Orleans 1885. One of Hjorths Fabrik's biggest successes and Denmark's first real stoneware series is the grey-brown stoneware.
