About the Item
For sale, a rare and highly collectable "Fifty Fifty" (aka "On/Off") table or wall lamp, conceived by Swiss artist Paul Talman, circa 1965, and later edited by Interaktives Licht Köln, Germany, circa 1990s.
This interactive lamp or 'light object' comprises of an anodised aluminium casing, housing nine two-sided, swivelling plastic balls with "ON" printed to the white side and "OFF" to the black side. These reveal or conceal the light and the spheres can be playfully rotated to create different patterns and lighting effects. The lamp can be displayed as a freestanding object, or can easily be wall mounted thanks to the mounting holes on the back.
The lamp is in superb vintage condition, is in full working order and is controlled via an in-line switch on the cable. Alternatively, the light could be hard wired straight into the wall.
Paul Talman was born in Zurich in 1932, died in Ueberstorf (Switzerland) in 1987 and was an abstract painter, sculptor, graphic artist and designer who took a deep interest in the relationship between colour and motion. As a painter he is counted among the constructivists. As a designer Talman worked in Switzerland, in Paris and the U.S.
