Pair Charles X Empire Period Gilt, Patinated Bronze Candelabra Lamps, circa 1830

About the Item

Fine quality pair of Charles X period gilt and patinated bronze candelabra lamps. Each having a central hand chiselled gilt bronze candle stem decorated with quatrefoil four leaf clover elements against a hand hammered background, topped by stylized palm fronds and an unusual olive leaf and olive fruit pattern candle cup; surrounded by three gilt and patinated bronze arms with stylized foliate designs on a gilt bronze capital and finely reeded column ending in tripod bases with patinated bronze paw feet and gilt bronze stylized acanthus leaf ornamentation. Very good condition with the gilding and patination in excellent state of preservation. The candelabra were converted to electricity and are in good working order. One retains a wonderful early electrical plug in the form of a rosette well suited to the Empire design. Each candelabra is wired for two standard light bulbs which may be turned on simultaneously by using the knob in the back or individually by pulling each pull switch down. High quality fixtures, bespoke electrification. Normal wear consistent with age and use, one of the electrical fixtured with slight bending which is completely covered by a lamp shade. Beautiful gilt bronze flame finials. Lamp shades pictured for display purposed, not included to facilitate shipping. We can recommend good online options for shades which allow you to choose size, shape, color and material with complementary shipping. Dimensions: Height 34.5 inches to the top of the finial which may be extended by a further 2 inches if desired; 24.5 inches to the top of the central candle column. Width: 9 inches bobeche to bobeche; base 6.5 inches.
