About the Item
A rare and elegant pair of Italian Mid-Century Modern Neoclassical solid brass
table lamps / desk lamps / bed-side or nightstand lamps, attributed to Gio Ponti and Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, circa 1930. The lamps possess a rare design aesthetic combining curved, urn and ring forms into one unique composition. The lamps are supported by round brass bases and urn form circular brass stems. Curved circular brass shades attach to the central stems and feature three stunning brass ring pulls that drape over the sides. Simple, sober and magnificent works of art. The innovative character of works like these lamps influenced the design aesthetic of a later generation of Italian designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini and Marzo Cecci.
