Illuminate your space with a cutting-edge lamp that not only brightens your room but also champions sustainability. Crafted from post-consumer HDPE and PET plastics, this unique lamp is a testament to innovation and environmental responsibility. The creation process is a marriage of technology and craftsmanship, as a KUKA robot programmed by Cody Norman collaborates seamlessly with his handheld extrusion gun under the skilled guidance of the artisan. The greenish/gray body of the lamp is made from the handheld extrusion gun, while the orange/yellow lampshade is made from the KUKA robot's 3D printing. Plasticus Obitus #1 is a beautiful combination of Cody Norman's two distinct creative processes of plastic extrusion.
With its ethereal glow, this lamp not only illuminates spaces but also illuminates minds, inspiring a reimagining of our relationship with the materials that surround us.
Norman is a Chicago/Detroit-based artist, designer, self-taught engineer, and a Cranbrook Academy of Arts graduate. His process embodies robotic 3D printing and a hand-held extrusion gun to transform recycled and bioplastics into the functional art object you see here.
