This is an exceptional period neoclassical finely carved and giltwood console with mirror, created by Johan Martin Berg (1772–1852) in Gothenburg, Sweden, circa 1820. This piece is of the highest quality for the period! It was a lucky find for us, coming from an estate in the Northeast US. This neoclassical Swedish piece consists of an elaborately carved and giltwood console with a rectangular-shaped inset white marble top, beautifully carved apron, raised upon a pair of scale-carved legs which terminate into clawed paws...

A stunning Swedish 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated, giltwood, and white Carrara marble console with its original matching mirror. The console is raised by a concave patinated black base with a wonderful patinated back panel centered by an elegant urn amidst beautiful scrolled foliate movements. Handsome circular fluted giltwood columns at the front and rectangular columns at the back lead upwards to lovely rosettes flanking the straight frieze. The frieze displays charming finely carved intertwining oak leaves with a beautiful central acorn reserve. Above the original fitted white Carrara marble top is the original matching mirror. The striking mirror also retains its original mirror plate with pierced foliate and arrow designs flanked by exceptional fluted columns with beautiful tied lattice designs at the base and impressive ionic capitals above with star reserves.
