Muhro Sculptural Mirror by Deceres Studio
Casted bronze in burnt wood mold
Burnished brass
Muhro is a conceptual representation of our dialogue on the US/Mexico border and the design elements represent varied aspects of its physical presence. Deceres vision of the time before the construction of this artificial division is that of a whole undisturbed land. The solid bronze base, which grounds the piece, was cast with a burnt wood texture to symbolize the men-made damage to the earth, from this foundation a protruding metal structure not only results in a divide, our border, but also is a canvas to illustrate the perceived characteristics of each unique side. The border creates the illusion of difference; the idea that one side is superior. The northern side appears neat compared to the noticeable untidy and rough Southern side. Díceres presents this perception by contrasting a flat-sided northern surface to a souther-facing surface with an intentionally rough welded structure that provides the necessary support to hold up the piece.
