20th Century "Atomic" Hall Stand by Roger Feraud, France, circa 1960

About the Item

Roger Feraud was an innovative French furniture designer who utilized the latest materials of that time, such as chrome plated metal and steel tubes, which can be found in a number of his works. Feraud worked with the French production company Cromos, which brought to life many of his designs. When the American chemist Linus Carl Pauling made a model of DNA as a string of spheres and rods in 1951, it inspired Roger Feraud to create what would become some of his most famous creations, the “atomic“ range which included coat hangers and hat stands (sometime incorporating umbrella stands) with black, solid steel frames, decorated with his typical painted solid wood balls.
