Louis XVI Trumeau with Painting and Carved Gold Leaf, French 19th Century
About the Item
This antique trumeau, carved in the manner of Louis XVI, is oil-painted with a scene of French pastoral life in the top third, above the mirror. A barefoot French country-girl leans against a wood post fence while her dog stands on the bank of a stream. In the background, a man follows a cow across an arched bridge over the stream.
The frame of the mirror is hand-carved wood. The wooden trim, the pieces framing the mirror and painting, and the decorative embellishments are all painted in gold leaf. The left and right sides of the mirror have faux columns created from the gold-leafed trim.
