Carved Giltwood Regency Eagle Serpent Mirror
About the Item
A carved giltwood mirror of classic Regency design. Surmounted by a displaying eagle set upon rock work.
Circa 1820.
The frame surrounded with a geometric-design border with intertwining serpents and oak leaves to the base.
Nb. giltwood mirrors with carved serpents are quite rare - this is a desirable feature.
This highly decorative antique English mirror has later re-enforcing to the back, probably added in the 19th century.
Re-gilded over time. Possibly originally with a convex mirror plate.

- 17th Century German Barock Carved MirrorLocated in Lymington, GBA rare German Baroque (Barock) carved oval mirror. Early-17th century, circa 1620-1630. The frame is superbly carved. The cresting with two cherubs supporting a cartouche, and seated upon displaying eagles. The base centred by a grotesque mask typical of this early period. The oval frame is flanked by boldly-carved Barock scrolls and foliate decoration, the inner frame is well carved with egg and dart. Very minor losses entirely consistent with age. Plate later. - Pair Regency Period Bronzed Giltwood TorchèresLocated in Lymington, GBA fine and rare pair of English Regency period torchères, or stands (or candle stands) in the manner of Thomas Hope. Circa 1810. Both are raised on tapering simulated-bronze column supports with circular tops and fluted gilt collars, on concave-sided triform bases with winged-panther mask monopodia. The column bases issue from spreading, gilded, carved lotuses. These antique torcheres might also be referred to as columns, ornamental stands, candle sticks, or candelabra.
