About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Sumptuous and elegant frame with ground mirror, the upper part is surmounted by a large soft bow-shaped decoration; the border decoration is sober and massive; the mirror is original, it is ground and made using the silver nitrate method; the frame was made with gold leaf gilding and with the so-called "pastiglia" process. "(molded gesso). The "pastiglia" processing, the fruit of the ancient artisan tradition, was born in Italy in the late 15th century, remains in use for most of the 17th century and then continued in the 19th century. The "pastiglia" consisted of a mixture of gypsum (calcium carbonate), vegetable-gluey resins, honey, linseed oil and often marble dust. On the wooden support a veil of cloth was glued and subsequently various states of "pastiglia" were spread, this was then imprinted or engraved or finely modeled, usually, the decorative motifs were in bas-relief, then everything was left to harden and at the end, the gold leaf was applied over the entire surface. Handcrafted in France in 1853 in pure Napoleon III style. A highly decorative work that can be placed in any room of the house, in fact, the mirror has the ability to transform a room, giving character and creating interesting and engaging perspective illusions. The entire frame measures: 91 cm x 64 cm while the internal mirror is 63 cm x 47 cm. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
