  • Set Six ‘Trieste’ Dining Chairs by Guglielmo Ulrich
    By Guglielmo Ulrich, Saffa
    Located in Chicago, IL
Celebrate the ingenuity of Modernist Italian design with this exceptionally rare set of six dining chairs from the "Trieste" series, masterfully crafted by Guglielmo Ulrich in 1961. Manufactured by Saffa, Italy, these exquisite chairs stand as testament to Ulrich's design genius, embodying an innovative fusion of form, function, and craftsmanship. Named after the first prize it won at the Fiera di Trieste in 1961, the "Trieste" chair showcases its innovative and lightweight construction, paralleling Gio Ponti's famed Superleggera chair. It demonstrates a revolutionary use of lightweight wood and intricate craftsmanship, with solid mahogany construction and unique open dovetail joins in lamellar wood that effortlessly connects the legs and backrest together without the use of screws. These split joinery details, visible at each joint, add a unique design element, making each chair a statement piece. These chairs were produced in limited quantities, further enhancing their exclusivity and appeal to collectors and design enthusiasts alike. The set of six dining armchairs are in very good vintage condition, having been carefully refinished / restored by the previous owner. Each chair is upholstered with plush velvet - four in a soft moss green, and two in a dark emerald green, providing a stylish touch of color. The wrapped seats can be easily reupholstered, giving you the opportunity to customize the chairs to your taste! As light as they are luxurious, these "Trieste" chairs rival Gio Ponti's Supperleggera in their innovative use of lightweight materials, without compromising on comfort or stability. Guglielmo Ulrich (1904 - 1977), born into a noble Danish family in Milan, was a seminal figure in Italian design. His works were inspired by 18th and 19th century designs yet reflected a profound understanding of material and simplicity in form and function. His penchant for rare and exquisite materials, combined with an unerring eye...
