Vintage Large Ornate Venetian Mirror Etched and Applied Foliate Floral Designs
About the Item
A gorgeous, large and ornate Venetian style mirror of rectangular form with foliate and floral designs on the top, along the perimeter and bottom of the mirror. Yes. That's right. This mirror is everything. A lot of applied designs all over. The ornate foliate designs all over are presented as etched, cut and applied pieces. The mirror has a break in one of the rods that is not super perceptible if the pieces are pushed together. This gorgeous mirror measures over three feet top to bottom. The mirror is backed with a sturdy wood support. But wait! Why are these called Venetian mirrors? Great question. Let's look back to the mid 19th century. A man named Antonio Salviati was fantastically successful in restoring the grandeur of Italian glassmaking. During this same time, young and noble Europeans were exploring the world thanks to the Grand Tour. Souvenirs had to be brought home! And what better souvenir than a gorgeous Venetian mirror. Or in the case of this listing, a large and ornate one! And to be clear and transparent (I mean, I am selling a mirror here) this was so difficult to photograph. But I did my best for you.
