Marj Day Bed in Copper Clad Over Teakwood by Paul Mathieu for Stephanie Odegard
About the Item
The earliest examples of the Day Bed have been found in Egyptian tombs of the 1stDynasty (3100 BC). The renowned designer Paul Mathieu has re-interpreted this classic form. Paul’s low, curvaceous interpretation is a contemporary homage to the traditional Indian craft of metal clad furniture.
This elegant piece is hand carved from solid pieces of teak. Pattern-makers trace and cut complex forms that will cover the table from thick sheets of copper, brass or white bronze, which can be smooth or hammered. Once the Chaise is joined together, it is meticulously encased in a tight-fitting metal skin.
Marj Day Bed in Copper
Size- 85"x44"x25"H
Materials - Copper, Teak, Cast, Hand-Crafted
Please note that moisture in air, sudden change in temperature and natural movement of wood over time causes the metal to wrinkle or bubble up. We use well seasoned, reclaimed teak and high quality marine grade MDF (wherever technically possible) to avoid and delay the above mentioned changes. However a perfect stability of metal cannot be guaranteed.
Please note that our smooth finish metal clad pieces will have some unavoidable tool marks. This is proof that everything is done by hand. The smooth finish will not come out like a machine made perfect surface and the master artisan will do their best to make it look as good/clean/stable/perfect as he possibly can.
Our hammered finishes are a much safer option if the tool mark scratches are unacceptable. The hammered finishes are also safer against eventual bubbling/wrinkles due to natural forces as mentioned above.
We would love to send you some samples before order confirmation so that the finish can be judged and experienced first hand.

- Louise Club Chair in Copper Over Teakwood by Paul Mathieu for Stephanie OdegardBy Stephanie Odegard CollectionLocated in New York, NYThe renowned designer Paul Mathieu chose the name “Louise” when he created his more feminine version of Louis XV (1730-1760) furniture. The characteristic cabriole leg, curving outward at the knee and inward towards the foot in an "S" shape was born during this period. It is during the same era that English furniture makers produced the Queen Anne and Chippendale styles. The curved legs and side arms of this exceptionally elegant chair are hand carved from solid pieces of teak. Pattern makers trace and cut complex forms that will cover the chair in a skin of copper or purest silver (assayed at 96% purity, beyond sterling at 92.5%). The metal finishes will tarnish over time. Regular non-abrasive household metal polishes can be used to restore the original luster. Louise Club Chair...Category
