Martin Goebel Unique Handcrafted Black Walnut King Size Poster Bed Barley Twist
About the Item
This one of a kind bespoke contemporary take on a Jacobean classic barley twist king size four-poster bed frame by master craftsman - artisan Martin Goebel. Made of Michigan black walnut that was salvaged from storm-damaged trees, is designed with a book-matched sunburst veneer that references morning and evening. Matching orbs, capped with whimsical tall spiraling finials, appear on the footboard and headboard. As the barley twists carve through the dark walnut’s tight graining, a spectrum of reds and blues gives way to brown, black, and amber. 90.5” Tall (79” Tall plus removable 11.5” finial) x 83”wide x 90”deep
Made in American, Black Walnut from Petoskey, Michigan, Bookmatched Veneered side rails, Sunburst Head board and Footboard. Finished with Satin/40 sheen catalyzed urethane (meeting European standards) Solid Posts, Veneered main surfaces with hand cut veneers @ 1/8” thick

Created in black walnut, shop sawn veneer and solids harvested from storm damage in Northern Michigan. The walnut trees were harvested in the summer of 2020 from Petoskey, Michigan after a microburst storm knocked down a few thousand trees in the region. These grew in the central town square for the previous 180 years. Martin drove approximately 900 miles to look at the nine trees, mill them and drove them back to St. Louis Missouri. They air dried for two years before use. The barley twists are made from solid single plank 4.5” x 4.5” blanks without glue lines. Crotch walnut was used for the center of the sunburst. Orbs were turned with horizontal grain as opposed to vertical standard turning orientation. Martin broke his foot while hand harvesting the timber.
