Classical Bronze of a Greek or Roman Female Figure

About the Item

This finely cast bronze shows great attention to detail. The seated figure is cast in a number of sections giving a level of natural grace only found in the finest works. The rest of the bronze is also cast in a number of sections creating a complete highly detailed form. The figure fully dressed in flowing pleated robes lounges back on a classical klismos stool with animal leg feet. The stool has an animal hide throw with the head showing out from under the figure's robes. The hair, jewelry and clothing details are very finely chased and shows great feeling and form and demonstrates the very best in late 19 th century French art bronze work designed to reach a wealthy and growing upper middle class household.

this work by famed Sculpture and Painter Georges Oudot was cast circa 1955 and bears his signature and the mark EA indicating its an artist proof, the foundry stamp of Susse Fondeur Paris. Entitled “Femme Debout au Drape” the work is dynamic and powerful as are almost all of the artist's figural works in bronze. The figure is cast and retains its original patina in a dark black-green.
